CECA
For almost 100 years AWLC has assisted organizations that emphasize education and literacy in Peru. Our continued goal is to partner with organizations that successfully promote literacy and reading and to encourage members to submit or sponsor proposals for grants when funds become available. Funding of these grants is provided by CECA, the Committee for Education and Community Action. CECA is traditionally funded by Cookbook sales and Noche de Música y Arte. Due to COVID-19 we have focused on virtual fundraising events such as Octobre Cultural in 2020.
How We Help
Over the years the AWLC has provided significant contributions to the following projects and organizations:
Escuela Superior Pedagógica (previously known as Instituto Pedagógico Nacional de Monterrico) - financial assistance and help with English program
Enseña Peru - catalysing educational transformation across Peru
ALINEN - educational support for young patients in Neoplásicas
SEMBRANDO JUNTOS - Improving community library space in Ventanilla
VIA LIBRO - Support for reading programs in public libraries and schools
AMURT - Rurapuk - promoting children ́s reasoning skills in Villa Maria del Triunfo
KUSI - Providing music and dance teachers for abandoned children in Yungay
SEMILLAS DE VIDA - Storyteller helping small organizations in the city and the sierra
SUZUKI Festival - Scholarships to teachers and students for international festival
Colegio María Alvarado - Scholarship program (formerly “Lima High School”)
Cuna Jardín "El Milagro" - New classrooms and scholarships for children in Chorrillos.
La Alegría en el Señor, La Molina - scholarships for children with physical disabilities
HUMTEC (Centro Educativo Privado "Humanismo y Tecnología”) - Supplies
CELES (Centro de Lectura, Escritura y Esparcimiento) - support for multi-service education-oriented community center in Manchay
Manchay Parish Education Center: funds to equip the learning center
I.E. Santa Teresita-B Secundaria, Pucallpa - support for innovative sports program
CASA MAGIA - home for children from the provinces being treated for cancer
CARE Peru - girls ́ educational opportunities.
Hogar San Francisco de Asis, Chaclacayo - housing and educational support for children coming to Lima for medical care

HOW YOU CAN HELP
CECA is always looking for club volunteers to assist in reviewing proposals for funding, and with innovative fundraising ideas. Donors and sponsors are needed to make our fundraisers successful.
